The Calico Coatings Carolina’s CUP made
its final stop in “Race City USA” Mooresville Dragway this past
weekend. There was plenty of hot action on the track, as sixteen
year old T.J. Harper of Harrisburg, VA scored his first career
TOP Eliminator victory. Young Harper, fresh out of the Junior
Dragster ranks, drove his Kenny’s Auto Mart Race Tech Dragster
to the $4,000.00 win over veteran Chuck Martin from Connelly
Springs, NC.
Both drivers clicked off “Double O” reaction times
in the finals, but it was Harpers 4.97 ET on a 4.97 index run at
137 MPH that made the difference. Stuart Smith of Lenior, NC and
Kevin Brannon from Boiling Springs, NC both driving Dragsters
placed in the semi-finals. Mopar veteran Chris Warren of
Concord, NC made it to his second straight Mooresville TOP
Eliminator finals on Sunday. Warren, who the week before won the
TOP Doors class and runner-up in Bad 16 action, scored his
second “Dirty MO” win in a row defeating Larry Roberts of
Lauren, SC. The former Mooresville champion Warren driving his
Pitts Repair Service Dodge Daytona ran a 5.26 ET at 127 mph to
defeat a red-lighting Roberts in his Race Tech Dragster. Kip
Maddox of Piedmont, SC and “OO” Charlie Doss of Statesville, NC
was TOP semi-finalist both in Dragsters.

The
unstoppable Chris Plott from Winston-Salem, NC
scored his
seventh Mooresville Foot Brake of year Saturday in his Mercury
Cougar. Plott, had a large points lead coming into the next to
last Calico CUP event of 2007 in Foot Brake, defeated Jonathan
Surratt of Charlotte, NC in his Chevrolet Chevelle. The “Cougs”
used a better reaction time and ran a 6.98 ET at 91 MPH to
defeat Surratt. The “Hit Man” Michael Spaugh of Advance, NC was
the lone semi-finalist.
On Sunday Plott squared off with number
two CUP points man Chad Dotson from Mill Springs, NC in the
finals of Foot Brake. It would be the “lizard” Chad Dotson
scoring his second Calico CUP win of the year at Mooresville
defeating “Cougar Daddy’ Plott. Veteran James Lockhart of
Charlotte, NC placed a strong third in his 442 Oldsmobile.
In
Calico Cup Junior Dragster action second generation drag racer
J.P. Britt of Lumberton, NC picked up the win defeating local
standout Mitchell
Harkey from China Grove, NC. Britt ran an 8.62
ET at 73 MPH to better Harkey for his first career “Dirty MO”
victory. Brooke Flynt-Hall of Chesnee, SC was the semi-finalist.
Miss Flynt-Hall was through winning, as on
Sunday she drove her
Fulton Competition sponsored entry to a win over Brooke Anderson
from Jonesville, NC. The third generation drag racer Flynt-Hall
ran a 7.93 ET at 79 MPH to stop the National Guard sponsored
dragster of Anderson. Ashley Strickland from Concord, NC was the
lone Junior semi-finalist.

Dial Scores TOP Eliminator "HIGH ROLLER" Win and Plott and
Dotson Split Foot Brake Moneies
In the "High Rolling" action on Saturday, Buddy Dial of Rowland, NC couldn't let his son Houston Dial out do him at the "Dirty MO". Dial drive his Race Tech Dragster to the TOP Eliminator HIGH Roller win over Danny Dilldine from High Point, NC in his Undercover Dragster. Dial used a .009 RT and ran a 4.88 on a 4.88 for the win over Dilldine in the Beal Racing Engines entry. Frankie Marshburn and Tim Nininger were semi-finalist. In the Foot Brake "HIGH Rollers" race, #1 and #2 men in the CUP points Chris Plott and Chad Dotson split the money and went to the house.We would see that rematch on Sunday in Cup action as the "Lizzard" defeated the "Cougs". Allan Farmer and Jeff Flood made up the Foot Brake semi's.
