THE EXCITING NEW MOSER ENGINEERING ADDITION
This year Moser Engineering has added a new level of excitement to the Summit SuperSeries program. If your Summit SuperSeries track champion in Top and Modified has Moser axles, runs the Moser decal and wins the run off at the Summit Team Finals, he will receive an extra $500 from Moser Engineering! But it gets better. The track he represents will also receive $500 from Moser Engineering.
If your Summit SuperSeries track champion in Top and Modified has Moser axles, runs the Moser decal and is runner up in the run off at the Summit Team Finals, he will receive an extra $250 from Moser Engineering!
Can this get better you ask? Yes, it can! If your Summit SuperSeries track champion in Top and Modified has Moser axles, runs the Moser decal and wins the run off at the IHRA World Finals in Memphis, he will receive another $500 from Moser Engineering! But it gets even better. The track he represents will also receive another $500 from Moser Engineering.

Tony
Brown Returns to Mooresville Dragway for 2012....
After
what will go down in the history books as a successful 2011
season in the drag racing arena for Mooresville Dragway, Tony
Brown will return as the track manager/operator for 2012 in a
larger capacity. The Leazer family has entered into an
innovative lease agreement with Brown to handle total operations
of the facility. He brings with him 30 years of racing
experience, 8 years of PTRA leadership, 2 years of track
management, 14 years as owner of his former speed parts
business, Atlantic Racing, and an educational background that
includes a Masters Degree in Business.
"I have
to thank the Leazers for giving me this opportunity" Brown
stated, "and I plan on bringing some new ideas that will
continue to keep the interest of the racer, the fan and the
marketing partners of Mooresville. I am so proud of our
racers for winning the Division 1 bracket finals. They are
all a class act, proving IHRA's purpose of the bracket finals,
the way the whole team came together to help and support each
other, after a season long battle against each other. We
have so many loyal racers who call Mooresville Dragway their
home, and I hope to make that allegiance even stronger somehow."
With a
full schedule including 12 bracket points events, 6 PTRA events,
Mad Dawg, Stick Shift/Gearjammers, 4-5 second shootout series, bike events,
truck pulls, 10 inch tire Friday night racing, and one of the most successful
weekly test and tune nights in the industry, look for the 2012
Mooresville Dragway season to stand out for sure.
Mark Joyce
and Tony Brown team up for 2012!
The very
popular PTRA series has been revamped for 2012 to include a full
points series for the 4-5 Second Shootout. The "long tree"
quickest bracket racers on the planet will now be offered a full
points series and will be contested at all six PTRA events.
Drivers can enter more than one class so don't be surprised to
see racers in the 4-5 second door car segment also enter the
4.90 index and/or Pro Tree Eliminator. The possibilities
are enormous. Keep in mind that the open body cars will be
run separate from the door cars and the winners of each segment
will run off for another $1000. Don't miss the first PTRA
event on May 4-5!
Mooresville Dragway Division 1 Champions!
Our
outstanding team of racers, lead by Chris Plott and Dillon
Winkler, took the IHRA Division 1 Championship title by only one
round win over Summerduck Dragway and five other great tracks
featuring well over 300 racers. Plott took the Modified ET
win on Sunday, while Dillon Winkler grabbed the runner-up in
Junior Dragster. Roger Plyler also landed the runner-up in
the Summit Super Series shootout which qualified him for the
Summit finals in October. Mooresville also won the "Best
Banner" award, the "Best Appearing Team" award and the track operator's
race with Tony Brown behind the wheel of Eddie Jackson's truck.
Thanks goes out to the entire team, their families, and friends
for supporting Mooresville Dragway in one of the tightest points
battles in our race track's long history. G. W. Leazer was
presented the track owned IHRA Iron Man. Thanks to G. W.
and Doris Leazer for creating all this for us over the last
fifty years.

Top
Eliminator
Roger Plyler
had a lot of work to do going into the final points race on
August 27 with a 5 round deficit to Chris Warren. Warren,
the man that won 25 consecutive rounds including two back to
back Top wins, needed a few more rounds to lock it up. As
fate would have it, an uncharacteristic red light ended his
evening in the second round. Plyler went on to secure the
championship by one point, winning the semifinal round. He
went on to finish in the runner-up position in the Iron Man
Classic. What a battle in Top Eliminator for the top
seventeen spots for the bracket finals team.

Footbrake
Multi-time
champion James Lockhart did it again! After a long year of
making rounds, it was not his day on August 27, exiting the
program in round number two. He had to wait patiently and
see how many rounds were won by young gun Aaron Kesler, Ricky
Greer, and Chris Plott, all with a mathematical chance for the
title. As it turned out, two rounds were won each by all
three drivers, which left a one point lead for Lockhart over
Kesler to seal the deal. The Mooresville footbrakers are
very accustomed to some of the tightest racing in the Southeast,
so bracket finals, look out!

Junior
Dragster
In the highly
competitive Junior Dragster category, Chris "Hot Rod" Gibson
went all the way to the last event with a great shot at the
championship, along with several other racers including Jesse
Warren and Mitchell Harkey, after early leads grabbed by Landon
Russell and Angela Gantkowski. The entire field of Juniors
were tough each week, which makes the Mooresville Dragway Junior
Dragster championship so special, especially when won by one
point.

Pro Tree
Eliminator
Second
generation racer Kurt Flanagan put together a come from behind
championship victory after stepping up his program from the mid
season onward. He took his family owned, Huntersville
CarQuest backed Camaro to victory lane no less than four times
during the series. He is also in the chase for another
championship within the PTRA program. It just so happens
his single missed race in 2011 was his wedding day. I
think if Michelle had a way to make it work, they would have
been racing on the way to the honeymoon......More on the entire
Flanagan family soon.

Real Street
In some
unbelievably close racing, the Real Street title was finally
clinched at the next to last event by Camaro driver, Jonnie
Owens. In a points battle with number two, Tim Finney, the
two quickest racers in the field had to chase down other drivers
each week. With new racers finding their way quickly
around the idea of footbraking and top end driving, in addition
to some veterans jumping in the game weekly, gaining points was
not easy. Jonnie will be representing Mooresville Dragway
at the bracket finals in the Footbrake division as our Real
Street champion.

Motorcycle
One could say
that Robby Barnette dominated the motorcycle division at
Mooresville Dragway, posting more wins than anyone this season.
He will head to the bracket finals to go up against some of the
best bike riders in the Southeast and hopefully come back with
an IHRA Iron Man.

Larry Holland used the
Mooresville facility for a great cause on a Thursday in April.
In a raffle for St. Jude's Children's Hospital, a few ticket
holders were treated to a trip down the track in Larry's blown
Olds 5.30 machine.

The riders were strapped in
with all protective gear under supervision of NHRA/IHRA tech
Tony Brown, and given the ride of their life, despite a mild
tune up. Larry Holland has always been a strong supporter
of charitable causes dating back to the Shuffletown days and we
appreciate the opportunity to be a part of St. Jude's efforts.
