May 24th- IHRA Iron Man Classic and Gaston Used Auto Parts & Recycling Center Series Race Wins Goes To Smith, Thompson, Dillon and Owens

Joe Thompson and Dillon Winkler all picked IHRA Iron Men at the
Dirty MO in the Drag Review Magazine “IRON MAN” Classic Race
Saturday night.

Joe Smith of
Matthews, NC drove his ’62 Chevrolet to a first Mooresville
Gaston Used Auto Part TOP Eliminator win over Dale Green of
Mooresville, NC in his ’72 Chevrolet Vega. Green was red in the
finals by -.005 to Smith’s .008 “green” light start. Smith
turned the 1/8th in 5.51 seconds at 126 MPH to pick
up the IHRA Iron Man win over the C.D. Trucking Vega. Billy Ray
Varner III of Stanley, NC and the “legend” Larry Lee of
Huntersville, NC was semi-finalist.
Veteran
Foot Braker Joe Thompson of Mooresville, NC got the big “Iron
Man” win by defeating Ray Crane of Morganton, NC in his Buick
Skylark. Thompson drove his ’68 Plymouth Barracuda to a 6.15 ET
at 107 MPH win over Crane’s 7.39 ET at 90 MPH effort. Thompson,
a 2006 IHRA Bracket Finals Modified ET (Foot Brake) runner-up
finally got the IHRA Iron Man he deserved with this Gaston Used
Auto Parts Foot Brake win. Allen Watson of Mt. Holly, NC and
Chris Yates of China Grove, NC was semi-finalist.
The “Ice
Man” Dillon Winkler from China Grove, NC picked up another IHRA
Iron Man to his collection in dragstripbrats.com Junior Dragster
racing. Winkler, the reigning “Iron Man” winner from last year
defeated Mitch Weddington of Concord, NC in his “On the Prowl”
entry. Ricky Fesperman of Salisbury, NC was the lone
semi-finalist.
Jonathan Owens of China Grove, NC drove his ’70 Chevrolet to the Ace High Performance Real Street win over Anthony Farmer from Stanfield, NC in his 2002 Ford.
