"We Fly Together" Corvette of Rocky Raynor Scores First BTE Mooresville Mad Dawg Win; "Junk Yard Dog" Camaro of David Lambert and driver Chad Tilley Go Runner-Up

The first Mad Dawg race at Mooresville finally go it in the books this past Saturday night, September 23rd in "Race City USA. Not even the chance of rain was going to stop the "Dawgs" from running this time. After a four month delay from the first try, the weather was near perfect as thirteen drivers attempted to qualify for the eight spots. The "We Fly Together" Team of Greensboro, NC's Rocky Raynor and his "Batman" Corvette set the pace in qualifying with a 4.19 ET at 171 MPH time. They would go on to take the BTE Transmission trophy over Chad Tilley from Lexington, NC driving for David Lambert in his "Junkyard Dog" Camaro. Tilley was first of the line by 1/100th of a second but couldn't stay in front of the Sonny Leonard 800 + powerplant of Raynor. Tilley, whose new motor isn't done yet for his own Pontiac was offered the ride, as Lambert was driving the Brian Neal owned Beretta. CT had tire shake and could manage a 4.39 ET at 164 MPH to Rocky's winning 4.25 ET at 170 MPH. Raynor credits Wally Stroupe for helping get the chassis worked out on the "We Fly Together"

Former 3 time Quick 8 Racers Assoc Champion Ken Regenthal made it to the semi's in his "Carolina Hooker" Corvette. Ken and the crew had been burning the mid-nite oil putting a new Turbo 400 "Automatic" transmission in his car. This made the first time in some twenty years that Regenthal had not raced with the aid a pulling levers (Lenco Transmission). He ran a 4.32 ET at 167 MPH to come second best to Tilley driving David Lambert's Wayne's Automotive Camaro. In the other semi- final match-up, Rocky beat out a red-lighting Rick Varner. The beautiful "the Judge" owned Pontiac GTO of Doug Miller and driver Varner was the number three qualifier with a 4.35 ET.

Corvette. The car was picture of perfect as they clicked 4.20's all night long enroute to the First BTE Mooresville Mad Dawg win.

L- Mark Jones, .061 RT, 4.55 ET, 133.03 MPH

Jones in Jim Wheatly's Camaro burn a piston earlier in qualifying and patched it together to race Raynor. Rocky ran another 4.2 et and looks hard to handle.

W- Chad Tilley- .040 RT, 4.329 ET, 166.02 MPH

L- Jeff Pittman- .043 RT, 4.410 ET, 164.27 MPH

Closes run of round one. MOV. 084

W- Ken Regenthal- .268 RT, 4.331 ET, 168 MPH

L- David Lambert- -.006 (RL), 4.517 ET, 162.12 MPH

Regenthal goes deep by mistake, learning new Turbo 400 and button. Lambert going for the bulb goes red by .006.

W- Rick Varner- .043 RT, 4.355 ET, 163.54 MPh

L- Ron Whitlock- .017 RT, 10.664 ET, 54.30 MPh

Had the makings of good race. Whitlock out of the gate first, but something breaks before the 60ft mark. The Judge takes the decision into round 2.

ROUND TWO-

W- Rocky Raynor- .122 RT, 4.270 ET, 169.61MPH

L- Rick Varner, -.041 (RL), 9.692 ET, 46.50 MPH

Rocky goes another 4.20 ET and looks unstoppable, as he's going straight down broadway. Varner goes red and shakes the tires.

W- Chad Tilley- .022 RT, 4.337 ET, 165.14 MPH

L- Ken Regenthal, .278 RT, 4.323 ET, 167.51 MPH

Regenthal wasn't as lucky this run. Tilley's at the tree before the car moves. Again, once the bugs are worked out for the "Hooker" this will be a good heads-up run.

FINALS-

W- Rocky Raynor- .056 RT, 4.250 ET, 170.99 MPH

L- Chad Tilley- .043 RT, 4.399 ET, 164.73 MPH

Rocky saves the quick elimination run for last. Tilley gets the jump out of the gate, but that's all . Tire shake takes the "Junkyard Dog" out. The BTE Tire and the coins goes to the "We Fly Together" team. (1.007 60ft, 2.806 330ft for the Rock).
