  Doug Walker, Robert Benge, Jr and Larry Ratley Posted Opening Day Wins in "Dirty Mo"    

  Over 180 entries were on hand for the opening race for 2007 at Mooresville Dragway, the “Ice Breaker” Free Race his past Saturday.  Neither the cold nor wind would stop a red hot Doug Walker of Greensboro, NC from taking the TOP Eliminator win in his newly acquired Race Tech Dragster. Walker, driving the former Danny Sons-DragRaceResults.com entry, used a .008 reaction time to beat out the “Gunslinger” Andy Beal of Thomasville, NC in his Undercover chassis Dragster. Doug ran a 4.82 on a 4.82 dial-in at 141 MPH to better the Beal Racing Engines/ Carolina Drag Tire entry of Beal. Walker posted a 10/1000th’s package in the finals at Mooresville to collect his second “free race” win of the year. He had won the weekend before at Farmington Dragway as had Andy Beal at Rockingham. Lee Ashe of Jonesville, SC in his ’67 Chevrolet Camaro was the lone semi-finalist. Door car drivers Scottie Keller in the families ’68 Chevrolet Camaro and David Spaugh driving K.Ray Alexander’s Chevrolet Nova were quarter-finalist.

It was an all Benge Family final in the Foot Brake division at the Ice Breaker free race. Both Robert, Sr taking on son Robert, Jr. of Mt. Airy, NC for the opening day win at Mooresville. The “old man” clicked off a great .009 reaction time at the start, but couldn’t stop a hard charging Junior at the finish line. Benge, Sr. in his Chevrolet Camaro ran a too quick 6.304 off a 6.30 at 108 mph to breakout to the younger Benge in his five second Chevrolet Monza. Matthew Hager of Concord, NC finished a strong third in his ’73 Chevrolet Nova, losing to Robert, Jr. in the semis. Foot Brake Quarter-finalist was Wade Holbrook of Lexington, NC, Travis Varner of Stanley, NC and James Lockhart of Charlotte, NC.

 

2006 Drake Coatings Junior Dragster Rookie of the Year Larry Ratley of Thomasville, NC scored his first Mooresville Dragway class win Saturday. Larry driving his “Big Kiddy” entry defeated Inman, SC’s Tyler Mosley for the victory. “Lil’ Larry used a better reaction time of the start to run an 8.42 off an 8.35 at 77 MPH to stop third generation racer Mosley’s 8.17 ET off an 8.12 dial at 79 MPH effort.  Brooke Anderson of Jonesville, NC and Brystel Mosley of Inman, SC were semi-finalist.

 

Next race will be this coming Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25, the all new Carolina’s Cup series. It’s a six race, two day series between two of the Carolina’s finest drag strips Farmington and Mooresville.  Over $148.000.00 will be up for grabs during the course of the year in TOP Eliminator, Foot Brake and Junior Dragster divisions. The new series features a restructured payout to reward the racers that make rounds, but don’t quite get to the finals. Plus, there will be a one of a kind Carolina’s Cup up for grabs for the season ending point’s champions in all three divisions.

Cold nor Wind Would Stop First Points Race !

Dan Whisnant, Michael Spaugh, Brittany Sprinkles and Bill Crane Take First PBM/Erson Race Wins

 

 Given that the weather was more like January than Easter; over 130 racers braved the brisk cold Saturday to kick off the 2007 PBM/Erson weekly race series at Mooresville Dragway. Taking the first TOP Eliminator win was Dan Whisnant of Caser, NC in his WSC Racing Engines, H&D Sportswear Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Whisnant defeated area new comer Paul Daigrepont of Sherrills Ford, NC in his Dragster. Former track champion Whisnant ran a 5.16 ET at 133 MPH to hold off DEI employee Daigrepont for the first points win.  2006 TOP Eliminator Rookie of the Year Travis Varner of Stanley, NC placed a strong semi-final finish in his MOPAR powered Dragster.

 The "Hit Man" Michael Spaugh of Advance, NC drove the wheels of his Chevrolet Nova to post the first PBM/Erson Foot Brake point race win. Spaugh, ran an 8.66 ET at 74 MPH to defeated Bryant Denning of Georgia in his Pontiac Firebird for the opening series win. Former Mooresville track champion Tim Byrd of Lexington, NC finished a solid semi-final finish in his Chevrolet Monza.

 Third generation drag racer Brittany Sprinkles of China Grove, NC captured the Drake Coatings Junior Dragster class win. Sporting a new purple paint job, young Sprinkles took the tree on a competition break in the finals for the win. Her competition Andy Cline of Statesville, NC broke in the semi-'s and couldn't return for the finals. Cline did however get in the "Perfect Light" light club with a great .000 in the quarters. Morgan Tedder of Marston, NC and Dillon Winkler of China Grove, NC placed in the semi-finals.

  Veteran Auther Whitley of Albemarle, NC drove his Chevrolet Monza to the “BAD 16” win over Dragster driver Paul Daigrepont from Sherrills Ford, NC. Whitley defeated Michael Martin of Hickory, NC in the “Door Car” finals in order to go to the over all finals. Daigrepont stopped engine builder Andy Beal of Thomasville, NC to take the “OPEN Bodied” portion of the BAD 16 event.

 Multi-time Ace High Performance Real street winner Bill Crane of Morganton, NC claimed his first victory of the year defeating Michael Casey of Statesville, NC.

Plott Takes $4,000.00 Foot Brake Showdown Win Over Chad Dotson; Kristy Craver Grabs Junior Dragster Blowout Victory Over Corey Leazer

  A red hot Chris Plott, coming off a win and runner-up Saturday night couldn't be stopped on Sunday for the $4,000.00 Foot Brake Showdown. Over 80 tough and ready Foot Brakers where on hand to battle for the showdown top prize. It would be a determined Chris Plott in his trusty Mercury Cougar to take the win over Chad Dotson from Mill Springs, NC in his Chevrolet Nova. These two young "foot brake" warrior's had met a round eariler in the semi's with Dotson taking the win over Plott. Chris had gone red by .001, but he wasn't through, as he had another entry to run. Plott with his second entry beat out Norman Powell of Morganton, NC to advance to the finals to face the "lizarrd" Dotson. This time "King Coug's" would get the gift of the red-light, as Chad went red by .011 and Coug's would crusie to a 6.87 ET at 99 MPH win.  A call has to go out to his dad Tommy, along with Howie Adams and Pork Jones, who Friday at Farmington worked on the Chr's' Cougar to fix a leaking head gasket.

 Honorable mention to the quarter-finals of this "whose, who" of Foot Brake event: Tim" Tumbleweed" Douglas of Yadkinville, NC, Tim Griffin of Cedar Bluff, VA, Joe Thompson of Mooresville, NC and Jackie Harrison from Wyo (Mocksville, NC).

  Kristy Craver from Winston-Salem, NC debut her new body rap in style this past Sunday at Mooresville in the Junior Dragster Blowout race. Craver driving her K&W Plumbing sponsored entry defeat the "Shut & Race" Motorsports entry of Corey Leazer. Young Craver used a better reaction time to defeat the defending IHRA Bracket Finals champion Leazer. Kristy ran a 7.97 ET off a 7.95 dial-in 79 MPH to Corey man's 7.93 ET off a 7.90 dial-in at 81 MPH to win. Mitch Weddington of Concord, NC in his "On The Prowl" entry was the lone semi-finalist. Mitchell Harkey of China Grove, NC, Brystal Mosley of Inman, SC and Jacob Goble from Granite Falls, NC were quarter-finalist.

Saturday Night, April 28th's PBM/Erson Race Series....

"Cougar Daddy" Chris Plott Rules the Dirty MO ! Plott Takes TOP Win Over Doss, Tennessee's Jerry Hunt Scores Dirty MO Foot Brake Win and Plott Second.

  What can you say Dude? Former Mooresville track champion Chris "Cougar Daddy" Plott of Winston-Salem, NC dominate racing action this past weekend at Mooresville Dragway. Opening with a win Saturday night in Doug Herbert TOP Eliminator over defending champion Charlie Doss of Statesville, NC.  The "Coug's" then was in his second Foot Brake final of the year at Mooresville, against Parrottsville, TN's Jerry Hunt.

 In the finals of TOP Eliminator only three thousandths seperate Plott in his '70 Cougar and Doss with his Race Tech Dragster in reaction time. "00" Doss ran 005 too quick (4.905 off a 4.91 dial) to the Plott man's 6.87 ET off a 6.85 dial-in to the good run. Plott had won the special TOP "WARS" race last year, but this made the first time the foot braker had actual won a real TOP Eliminator race. "Dangerous" Dan Whisnant of Caser, NC in his Monte Carlo and Roger Plyer from Statesville, NC in a Nova were semi-finalist.

 The left hand steer 27-T Roadster of Jerry Hunt put down a sixteen thousandths package in the finals of Foot Brake to take his first ever "Dirty MO" win. Hunt from Parrottsville, TN in his first trip to "Race City" defeated "King Coug's" Plott in the finals. CP was .019 and .012 above for the runner-up finish in his Beal Racing Engines powered Mercury. Young Gun Brian Holbrook of Lexington, NC drove his 1973 Chevrolet Camaro to an impressive semi-final finish in Dirty MO Foot Brake.

 Third generation drag racer Andy Cline of Statesville, NC made his way to his second Drake Coatings Junior Dragster finals of the year. Cline, who broke in the opening points race finals to Brittany Sprinkles, made up for it the past Saturday night. Andy claimed his first "W" of the year defeating Zachary Pauley of Germanton, NC in the Drake Coating finals. Jacob Goble of Granite Falls, NC son of Foot Braker was the lone semi-finalist.

 Colt Buckner of Madison, NC picked up the Ace High Performance Real Street win over a large field of street legal cars in his dad's Chevy powered Jagar.

 

The Doors Take BAD 16 win Again !  The "Wiz" Dan Whisnant Shuts the DOORS on the Dragster of Paul Diagrepont.

 In the BAD 16 "Doors VS. Opens Bodieds" war, the Doors win again. The "Wiz" Dan Whisnant in his WSC Racing Engines Monte Carlo used a .004 reaction time to beat out Paul Daigrepont of Sherrills Ford, NC in his Dragster. Whisnant, in the "Doors" quickest 8 portion of the program, had to defeat last time event winner Arther Whitley from Albemarle, NC in his Chevrolet Monza. In the quickest 8 "open bodied" side of the ladder the "Raging Cajun" Paul defeated the "Mad Man" Chad Tilley of Lexington, NC for his second Dragster win of the year. Russ Whitlock of Mocksville, NC lead the way in the open bodieds with a 4.66 ET at 152 MPH, with Robert Benge, Jr putting the "Bad Bird" on the pole in the Door cars with a 5.04 ET
