"Carolina Kid" Travis Harvey Stops the "Outlaw" Sambo Price in Mad Dawg Finals 4.15 to a 4.22
The fastest field and the quickest side by side finals made Outlaw Mad Dawg history Saturday night at the Mooresville Dragway. Nineteen top notch drivers and cars attempted to make the tough eight car “dawg” field.
The “Carolina Kid” Travis
Harvey of Burlington, NC driving “rapid” Russ Farmer’s Race Tech
Camaro captured his first Outlaw Mad Dawg win Saturday night at
the “dawg house” Mooresville Dragway. Harvey debut his new Brett
Nesbitt built 763 motor at the Dirty Mo in fine style taking the
number the spot with a 4.19 ET at 181 MPH as Joel Douglas was
the number eight man with a 4.269 ET. Making it to his first
Outlaw Mad Dawg finals was Sambo Price of Mt.Holly, NC with his
770 Cu.In. PAR Racing Engine ’68 Camaro. It was a great match up
of the
number one and two qualifiers in the finals. Harvey and
the Race Tech crew saved the best for last, as they clicked of a
near record 4.15 ET at 175 MPH to take his first dawg win. Sambo
gave it a great shot with a super 4.22 ET at 173 MPH charge to
come up second best in a great side by side dawg final.
Before the semi-final round match up between recent Big Dog
winner
Jason Harris and Travis Harvey. The Pontiac GTO of Jason’s had
tore up a transmission in his first round win over David
Campbell. The Harris gang quickly went to work, but also with
the help from Travis, Jeff Miller and other members of the Race
Tech crew. In that semi-final match up of the young titans,
Harvey left with a slight advantage of the tree. The Albert
powered 632 of Jason and Bob Harris was on a run clicking off a
.983 60ft and 2.80 330 times. But right after half track Harris’
car made a sharp move and he had to let up. The Race Tech
“Rocket Ship” recorded another super 4.19 ET at 175 MPH win to
advance to their second Mad Dawg finals. On the other side of
the ladder local favorite Joel Douglas driving Anthony Sherrills
632 powered Cavalier was up against ultra quick Sambo Price in
his PAR racing engines Camaro. The Outlaw Sambo took a big
advantage of the line and wouldn’t look back for a 4.20 ET at
170 MPH win over Douglas and advance to his first dawg finals.
The Douglas and Ant team had the Chevy hooked up going a great
4.24 ET to come up second best.

In the non-qualifiers “Lil Dawg’ Race local young gun Tony Wilson scored the win over another youngster Mike “Skinny Kid” Heath. The Wilson Family Monte Carlo clicked off consistent 4.27 and 4.28 ET’s in route to the Lil Dawg at Mooresville with their 632 powerplant. Heath, driving Mark “the Kid” Jones ’90 Oldsmobile ran a career best 4.33 ET at 172 MPH to come up second best in Lil Dawg competition. Heath, also picked up the Bunton-Lebe Burn Out contest award with the “Kids” 615 cu.in powered OLDS.
