Jeff Edmonds, James Lockhart, Maria Kay Bowie and Kerri Henery All Post Gaston Used Auto Parts/dragstripbrats.com Points Wins
Former Mooresville track champion Jeff Edmonds of Statesville, NC picked up the win Saturday night in Gaston Used Auto Parts TOP Eliminator defeating Dan Malloy of Mooresville, NC. Current TOP points leader Malloy in his Race Tech had the better reaction time, but ran a too quick 4.83 ET off a 4.84 dial-in at 138 MPH for the runner-up finish. This made Edmonds first win of the year at the “Dirty MO” in his SCRC racing Worthy Dragster and moved him to fifth in the points with one race remaining. Tennille Baker of Taylorsville, NC and Bobby Bartlett of Charlotte, NC was semi-finalist.
Former IHRA Foot Brake champion James Lockhart of Charlotte,
NC scored another big Gaston Used Auto Parts points win
defeating Tim Cowick of Mooresville, NC. Lockhart driving
his trusty 1970 442 Oldsmobile ran a 7.93 ET on a 7.93
dial-in at 88 MPH to hold off a quicker 6.33 ET at 106 MPH
charge of Cowick in his 1973 Dodge Dart. This second
straight win by the veteran Lockhart has given him a one
point lead in the standings over Mooresville, NC’s Joe
Thompson. Jonathan Surratt of Charlotte, NC was the lone
semi-finalist.
In the dragstripbrats.com Junior Dragster race series young Maria Kay Bowie of Statesville, NC scored her second win of the season defeating Ricky Fesperman of Salisbury, NC. Bowie in her East Coast Perf. Dragster used a better reaction time off the start and ran a 8.90 ET at 72 MPH to beat out Ricky’s dead-on 7.95 on a 7.95 run. Third generation drag racer Justin Edmonds of Statesville, NC was the lone semi-finalist.
Second generation drag racer Kerri Henry of China Grove, NC drove her 1968 Chevrolet Nova to a first Real Street win of the year at Mooresville. Henry, also used a better R/T off the start to defeat current Real Street points leader Tim Finney of Kannapolis, NC for the win.
Final points race is scheduled for Saturday night, September 20th.
