Lil Daddy” Jason Harris Sets New Dawg Record 4.10 ET! Beats Them Yanks Rini In Dawg Shootout.
Record Setting Performances Headline Rain Shorten Mad Dawgs this past Memorial Day Saturday at Mooresville
The
rain finally caught up with the Dawgs at the Dirty Mo this past
Saturday, but not until after three exciting rounds of
qualifying was completed. Taking his second straight pole
position was “lil Daddy” Jason Harris of Pittsboro, NC in his
Albert Racing Engines Pontiac GTO. Harris, son of “Big Daddy”
Bob Harris, blasted to a new Mad Dawg record 4.10 ET at 176 MPH
in the “Dawg Shootout” final round of Qualifying. Harris was set
to take on three time Carolina’s Dawg winner this year Chris
Rini of
Carmel, NY in his ATI Performance Products Dodge Stratus. Rini
kicked a vaccum belt off on the burnout and was able to put it
back on to take a solo pass at a 4.12 ET and the number two
spot. The Dawg Shootout on the final round qualifying had the
makings of a dawg fight between Harris and Rini, Albert and Buck
power. Rini, the season opener Mad Dawg winner lead qualifying
going into the final round with Harris second. Jason’s 4.08 ET
that he had run in round number two was disallowed due to his
Pontiac’s front end taking out the foam block. He was on a run
to make even more Mad Dawg history at the Dirty MO until then.
Joel Douglas of Statesville, NC in his Sherrill’s Auto Care
Chevrolet Colbalt was number three qualifier with a 4.165 ET
effort. Gilmer Hinshaw of Burlington, NC ran a strong 4.172 ET
in his Par Racing Engines powered Senecal Contruction Chevrolet
Colbalt for the number four spot. Lexington, VA’s J.D. Goad was
right behind in fifth with a 4.173 ET in his beautiful Goad
Paint & Body Chevrolet Lumina. “Mr. Extreme” Darrin Hoyle of
Taylorsville, NC nailed down the number six position with a
4.207 ET in his ’68 Chevrolet Camaro. Taking the number seven
spot was Mad Dawg new comer Scott Gunn from Rustburg, VA in his
“Blown” 526 Pontiac Firebird. The Gunn with in his ‘Green
Goblin” entry, blasted to a 4.216 ET to represent the
supercharged fans well. Rounding out this tight field of Mad
Dawg qualifiers was Mocksville, NC’s Todd Howard in Jerry
Williams Ford Probe. The only Mad Dawg Ford in the house
qualified in a 4.223 ET, coming off a big season opener
runner-up for the JW Motorsports team.
Former Mad Dawg winner Kerry Crosby of Early Branch, SC was ninth with a 4.234 ET in his 632 powered Stroupe build Pontiac. Former two time Mad Dawg race winner Rocky Raynor of Greensboro, NC was tenth with a 4.245 ET in his “We Fly Together” 63 Corvette. The “Junkyard” Dog David Lambert of Kannapolis, NC was eleventh with a 4.256 ET in his Wayne’s Automotive Chevrolet Cavalier. Charlotte, NC’s Robby and Gene Keziah took their TM build Corvette to the twelvth position with a 4.262 ET. Boonville, NC’s Jamie and Ghia Chappell was thirthteen in there Albert Racing Engines powered Pontiac Grand Am. Fourteen was opening day “Lil Dawg” winner Mike Heath of Winston-Salem, NC in Mark”the Kid” Jones Buck powered 615 rocket OLDsmobile. Former Mad Dawg finalist Sam Bo Price of Gastonia, NC was fifteen with a 4.32 ET in his ’68 Camaro. Brian Shrader of Bristol, VA in his ’63 Chevrolet Corvette clicked off a 4.42 ET for the number sixteen spot. Rick Smith of Morganton was your number seventeen man in his ’63 Corvette. "Big" Timmy Alexander of Mocksville, NC captured the Foot brake class in his Chevrolet Malibu, Resent IHRA Top Dragster winner Steven Hester of Hickory, NC picked up the number spot in TOP Eliminator with his Dragster.
