Waters, Jr, Bingham, Upton, Robbins, Sloan, Estep and Ferguson Take D-9 Summit Pro Am Wins
You couldn’t have asked for better weather for the running of the Dirty Mo’s delayed D-9 Summit Pro Am last weekend in Mooresville, NC. Taking home the win in TOP Dragster was former world champion Danny Waters, Jr. in his Moser Engineering Dragster. Waters used a closer to the dial-in to defeat reigning Quick Rod world champion Brett Nesbitt. Former world champion Gary Bingham of Kings Mt. NC picked up the TOP Sportsman win over Mark Payne. Bingham in his Doug Herbert Perf. Pontiac ran dead on the dial-in to stop the “House of Payne” Mark in his Chevrolet Cavalier. South Carolina’s Bo Upton took home the man in Quick Rod stopping veteran drag racer David Barr of Asheville, NC. A red hot Tracy Robbins scored his second straight D-9 Super Stock win taking out veteran class racer Danny Stanton. Robbins scored the opening D-9 win at the FARM, used a “00” reaction time to hold off Stanton’s OLDS. IT was MOPAR rules in the finals of Stock, as second generation drag racer Hillary Sloan drove her Demon to the win. The Sloan Racing Engines entry defeated Stock new comer Michael McCandless in his “Bocephus” Wagon. Veteran IHRA Rod racer Danny Estep of Virginia scored the 6.40 Super Rod win over former Dirty Mo rod winner Scott Lawton. Estep in his Olds used a better reaction time to hold off the Chevy Roadster of Lawton. Could reigning Hot Rod world champion Glenn Ferguson, Jr of Greensboro, NC be working on another? Yes. Quarters at the FARM and now a WIN at the Dirty MO, could very well lead to that. Anyway Glenn, Jr took the Ferguson family Ford Fairlane to the seven flat win over a red-lighting Bill Fergerson.
