TOMMY PLOTT, PAUL SHELL, JR, and AUSTIN LEAZER Lay Claim to Gaston Used Auto Part Points Race One

A large contingent of racers was on hand for the “2 N 1 Day” Gaston Used Auto Parts point’s series races this past Saturday at Mooresville Dragway. Former Carolina Coalition champion Tommy Plott of Winston-Salem, NC picked up the TOP Eliminator afternoon feature win over former Dirty Mo track champion Chuck Martin of Connelly Spring, NC. Chuckie was away first with a .005 reaction time and T.P. second with a .008 lite. At the stripe it was Plott’s TSR, Hank Thomas Perf. Beal Racing Engines Race Tech Dragster the winner. A dead-on 4.759 ET off a 4.75 index at 143 MPH was good enuff to the losing 4.924 ET off a 4.91 dial-in run at 137 MPH in his WSC Racing Engines Race Tech Dragster. David Spaugh of Advance, NC in his hoof beater Ford Mustang was the greasy semi-finalist.

  Former Mooresville Foot Brake champion Paul Shell, Jr. of Lexington, NC found his way back home to the Dirty Mo winner’s circle in Saturday afternoons feature race. Shell, Jr. with his early model Chevrolet Nova squared off with former two time IHRA world champion Deat Buckner of Winston-Salem, NC in his sleek black Chevy Nova. In the clash of champions Foot Brake style, Buckner leaving first red-lighted, thus giving the big man Shell his first Mooresville win of the year. 2008 Div.9 Mod ET world champion Kelly Stevens drove Eric Shumaker’s Pontiac to a semi-final finish along with the picture man Robert Ellison of High Point, NC in his Valiant ’67.

  Third generation racer Austin Leazer of the Dirty Mo, picked up his first career win in the Aliied Bearing Junior Dragster division in race one.  Austin powered his Jody L.sponsored  entry to a 9.36 ET at 69 MPH win over Dillon Winkler of China Grove, NC. The “IceMan” Winkler broke and couldn’t complete the run against Leazer. Matthew Flynt of Pinnacle, NC was the semi-man.

 TAKE "Night Cap" Gaston Used Auto Parts Points Race Two Victories

  The door car’s wasn’t to be out done in Gaston Used Auto Parts race two of the day. Representing was former Dirty Mo Doorcarpalooza winner Rick Whaley of Reidsville, NC up against Team Dirty Mo’s own Doug Leazer in his Gibbs Race Cars Dragster. “Slick” Rick with Debbie’s Toy their Chevy Camaro left first with a.015 reaction and the “Cookie Man” gave chase with his Mooresvilledragway.com Dragster posting a .019 R/T. Whaley’s 5.25 ET off a 5.23 dial bettered the 4.94 ET off a 4.81 for Leazer. Scott Hill of Chester, SC was the lone semi-man.

  The “Mission Man too” David Spaugh took the Gaston Used Auto Parts Foot Brake points race #2 win over “Lil Fat Boy” Tommy Greer of Winston-Salem, NC. The former two time Farmington Dragway track champion Spaugh didn’t give the “kid” Greer nothing in the finals. Spaugh’s Ford Mustang clicked off a winning .019 R/T with a 7.404 ET of a 7.40 dial-in to hold off the 7.21 ET of a 7.22 dial-in run for “Lil Greer in his Chevrolet Nova. Jonathan Surratt of Charlotte, NC drove his Chevrolet Chevelle to the semi-finals.

  “Lil Edmonds” Justin scored his first Allied Bearings Junior Dragster victory in the night cap race #2 defeating a red hot Matthew Flynt of Pinnacle, NC. Edmonds of Statesville, NC, whose dad Jeff is a former track champion and grandson of Bucky the man who started it all, used a.004 reaction time to defeat race one semi-finalist Flynt. Race one’s runner-up Dillon Winkler rebounded in race two placing a strong semi-final finish. Recent runner-up at Piedmont Maria Kay Bowie drove her East Coast Performance entry to a super semi-final finish.
