Mooresville Doorcarpalooza Turn's Back Time With Record Crowd and Door Cars On Hand!

Thanks! to all that participate in the 2009 DoorCarpalooza this past weekend at Mooresville Dragway. It was a flash back to the golden day of all door cars and late night finishes "Dirty Mo style"

Lee Cropps, Robert Sawrey, Todd Comer, Jeff Flood and Larry South Post DoorCarpalooza Wins

It was an history making  DOORCARpalooza at the Dirty Mo this past weekend!  Over 150 DOOR CARS was in attendance in the Mad Dawg, Renegade, TOP, Foot Brake and Street classes. Like the Mooresville Dragway of times, it run just a little past mid-night before Dobson, NC’s Lee Cropps drove his 1967 Chevrolet Camaro to a big TOPDOORS win over Lonnie Plyer from Statesville, NC in his 1967 Chevrolet Camaro. Cropps a former DoorCarpalooza finalist received the Dirty Mo victory, when Plyer broke out on the run.  New London, NC’s Todd Comer the bonus Quick 16 TOP winner was the lone semi-finalist in his 1997 Ford Ranger Truck. Comer, a former IHRA divisional champion defeated the old man of Statesville, NC James Overcash in his Chevrolet Lumina for that Quick 16 door car win. Kannapolis, NC’s Dave Matthews in James Bunton’s ’82 Covette and multi-time DoorCarpalooza winner Rick Whaley of Reidsville, NC was the bonus semi-finalist.

  “The Grem” Robert Sawrey of Winston-Salem, NC drove his S&S Mobile Car Wash 1972 AMC Gremlin to the Foot Brake Doors win defeating the 1940 Chevy Coupe of Charlotte, NC’s Tom Lumley. Sawrey used a better reaction time of the start and ran a 6.99 ET at 95 MPH to beat out the quicker 6.21 ET at 108 MPH of Lumley’s classic Chevy. In the semi-finals the Farm Boys Jeff Flood in his Chevy Vega and Lil Fat Boy Tommy Greer in his Chevy Nova was the semi-finalist. The 2008 IHRA D-1 Mod ET champion Flood won the special Foot Brake Quick 8 race defeating former Dirty Mo Foot Brake champion Paul Shell, Jr. of Lexington, NC in his super fast small block Chevy Nova. Former Classic Gear Jammer champion Larry Leazer of Mooresville, NC and Joe Thompson from Race City, USA in his Plymouth Barracuda were semi-finalist.

Larry South of Sophia, NC drove his Dodge Truck to the Real Street Doors victory over Michael Goodnight of Landis, NC in his 4 door Chevy Nova.

There was a lot of new players Mad Dawg in the “dawg house” Saturday night. Coming back for the first time this year was Jim Teachman, Ronnie Gardner, Buzz Varner, Kevin Carpenter, “Baby Boy” McCauley, Travis Harvey, Tony Wilson, Johnny Reavis and Chad Tilley to mix in with previous dawg participants. Come away with his second career Mooresville Mad Dawg win was the Carolina Kid Travis Harvey of Burlington, NC. Just like a Carolina basketball game the Race Tech team came to play and win. Lead by car owner Russ Farmer, the Race Tech  Race Cars ’68 Camaro and driver Travis Harvey lead all the dawgs with a 4.175 175.17 charge. Then in the final round of Mad Dawg qualifying Harvey  defeated the “Gotham City” 57 Chevy of  Jim Teachman from Virginia Beach, VA for the “Dawg Shootout” win.

 In round one of the dawgs….. veteran Quick 8 racer Todd Howard of Mocksville, NC won a pedalfest race over Rocky Raynor  of Greensboro, NC. Howard in his JW Motorsports Ford Probe got to the finishline first with a 4.38 ET over the Rick Hendrick’s Auto Mall of Durham, NC Chevrolet Corvette of the “We Fly Together” race team.  The races tighten up with the next pair out.  “Mr Extreme” Darrin Hoyle of Taylorsville, NC in his ’68 Chevrolet Camaro defeated the dawg shootout runner-up Teachman. Doyle with his Fulton 762 rain a  4.17 ET @ 174 MPH to beat out the 776 Cu.in ’57 Chevy. Next pair saw defending DoorCarpalooza champs Ronnie Gardner of Greensboro, NC  and  “Diamond” Jack Gaddy of Burlington, NC stop the Charlotte, NC based team on Robbie and Gene Keziah. The rescent Piedmont Big Dog winners Gardner and Gaddy won the closes race of the round going a 4.176 ET at 181 MPH to stop the 4.196 ET at 173 MPH of Keziah. The final pair down the legendary Mooresville 1/8th mile was Harvey in his Nesbitt Race Engines 762 powered Race Tech Camaro and Price in his 710 cu.in “68 “Back in Black” Stroupe built Camaro.  Price gave the “Carolina Kid” a good run going a 4.19 ET @ 170 MPH, but Farmer and the gang had the tune-up going a 4.13 ET at 175 MPH to take the win.

 Round two of the Dawgs saw Darrin Hoyle, and crew chief Emily Hoyle ’68 Camaro square up with “Mr. Prime Time Race Cars” man himself Gardner in Gaddy’s Ace Fence, Foust Backhoe Service and Tree-R-Us 2002 Chevy Cavalier. Ronnie pushed the tree red by .008ths giving away a 4.15 ET a new Mad Dawg record 183 MPH charge to Hoyle’s winning 4.21 ET @ 173 MPH. “Mr. Mega Machine Shop” owner Howard got the jump out the gate in Jerry Williams’ Ford, But his 4.21 ET @ 169 MPH couldn’t handle the “Carolina Kids” quicker 4.15 @ 174 MPH charge.

  In them dawg finals in was the battle of 1968 Camaro’s. Bickle VS. Race Tech. The Race Tech boys came load for bear.....going .976 60ft, 2.714 half track and a winning 4122 ET @ 175.59. Hoyle clock in with a .038 R/T, .997 60ft, 2.798 330ft and 4.29 @ 149 MPH back pedaling time.

"Skinny Kid" Mike Heath Takes "Kids" Olds to second Lil Dawg Win Over "Baby Boy" McCauley's OLDSMOBILE

     In the Lil Dawg (next 4 non-qualifiers race) “Skinny Kid” Mike Heath of Tobaccoville, NC, driving for Mark “the Kid” Jones scored his second “Dirty Mo win by defeating “Baby Boy” Clay McCauley of Mebane, NC. In the finals what a match up match up…the Kid’s 615 Buck racing engines ’90 Olds Cutlass VS. Baby Boy’s 706 cu in ’91 Olds Cutlass.  Baby Boy got  lane choice from his first round one win over Kannapolis, NC’s Tony Dale Wilson’s MBE Monte Carlo. A 4.30 ET @ 166 MPH with his Melissa Dupre lead Olds beat out the Wilson’s Fulton 706 powerplant. “Skinny Kid” was long down the track with his 4.31 ET at 169 MPH victory over Johnny Reavis hoodscope throwing Pontiac. In the finals of the littlest dawgs the team of Jones and Heath got the jump of the line over “BB” and ran a 4.30 ET @ a big 172 MPH to win their second straight Lil Dawg win.

 Bubba T Takes Emotional First Piedmont-Dirty Mo Renegade Win Over Kentucky's Josh Salley

 Claiming the very first Dirty Mo Renegade win was Piedmont Dragway’s Bubba Turner in his Albert Racing Engines/ Jim Turner 1992 Pontiac Trans Am T/A. This was an emotional win for Turner, who lost his mom back in January. Bubba T defeated the Renegade Challenge winner Wayne Chambers of Burlington, NC in the semi-finals. While on the other side of the ladder number one qualifier Brian Shrader of Bristol, VA run of 4.31 was disallowed after it was discovered that his blanket had fell down, thus holding the light. His semi-final opponent Josh Salley of  Russell, KY was reinstated, but couldn’t make the call in his A-1 Cleaning & Restoration, Don Salley, Inc 1992 Chevy Camaro experienced motor troubles. That gave the veteran Bubba T. his first Piedmont Dragway Renegade win Dirty Mo style!
