Larry Leazer Carries Home the 1st annual Stick Shift Championship at Mooresville Dragway

 

 

What a Saturday it turned out to be at DOOR CAR JAM-A-RAMA #1 this past weekend at Mooresville Dragway. Forty-four “Stick Shift” Masters were on hand to contest for the Hank Thomas Performance “Stick Shift” Trophy. Taking home the Stick Shift Championship was Mooresville, NC’s Larry Leazer in his 1967 Chevrolet Camaro. The former Classic Gear Jammer champion Leazer defeated the “Mighty Mouse” ’71 Chevy Nova of Winston-Salem, NC’s James Stoneman. The fast ’66 Corvette of Spartanburg, SC’s Dane Pearson was the semi-finalist. “Killer” Steve Keller picked up the number 1 “Dash for Cash” honors in his Chevrolet Nova. Joe Garmon of Lincolnton, NC in his slick looking ’67 Chevrolet Nova won the special “Second Chance” Race defeating Donn Brandt of Mooresville, NC in his ’91 Ford Mustang.

 

 Thanks to the all Stick Shifters that attended this years “Stick Shift” Championships. Also, SPECIAL THANKS to the Stick Shifter racers that participated in the Stick Shift Ride Along for Chuck Martin that help raise over $600.00 for the reigining TOP Eliminator champion Martin who was injured in a accident at the track back in April. Thanks to EVERYONE that contributed to the ride along to raise this money for Chuck. This shows that Drag Racing cares.

 The Quick 8 Mad Dawgs was anything but fast but was one of the more interesting dawg races yet. Chad Tilley a two time dawg winner set the past with a quick weighted et of a 4.170 at 183 MPH. Tilley driving David and Rhonda Lambert’s “Junk Yard” Dog Chevy Cavailer also won the final round qualifying bonus “Dawg Fight” race beating out number two qualifier Darrin Hoyle of Taylorsville, NC in his ’68 Chevrolet Camaro with a 4.18 to a 4.18 for a better reaction time win.  Taking home the special Memorial Day trophy was “Mr. Extreme” Darrin Hoyle in his Fulton powered Bickel built Camaro defeating the Wayne’s Automotive/ Albert Racing Engines Chevy of Tilley and Lambert. Hoyle a former 10.5 extreme champion won the crowd favorite “Pedal Fest” finals over the “Mad man” Chad. This also marked Darrin and wife Emily’s first ever Quick 8 Mad Dawg win. Congradulations it was long over due! In the semi finals Tilley ran a 4.18 ET to defeat the Gotham City ’57 Chevy of Jim Teachman. Hoyle ran the events quickest Dawg ET of a 4.165 to stop the 104/ WTQR, O’Reillys, FarmingtonDragway.net Corvette of Don Plemmons and hired gun Buzz Varner.

 Shane Westmoreland ruled DOOR CAR JAM-A-RAMA TOP DOORS and TOP 16 racing with his Oak Ridge Motorsports 1968 Chevrolet Camaro. Shane a second generation racer from Stokesdale, NC defeated third generation racer T.G. Paschal of Kernersville, NC in his David and Harold Sexton “Lil Red” racing Ford Mustang. Paschal a two time door car winner this year, defeated Corky Hedrick of Lexington, NC in his 1968 Chevy Camaro. While Westmoreland defeated the former Farm 5 sec. champion Billy Ray Varner, Jr. in his “Super Cuda” Plymouth.

 Super Shane Westmoreland also took the special TOP DORS Quick 16 win with his Tommy Hedricks Camaro defeating for IHRA T/S Div.9 Champion james Bunton of Statesville, NC Bunton was a little too quick off the start giving the younger Westmoreland Quick 16 win. Jason Moose of Statesville, NC in his Chevy Nova and “Slick” Rick Whaley in his IROC Camaro of Reidsville, NC werer the semi-finalist. Moose was the number sixteen qualifier with a 5.830 to Whaley’s number one 5.007 ET for the pole position.

  Scoring.his first ever Door Car Foot Brake win was Tim Cowick of Mooresville, NC in his 1973 Dodge Dart defeating former two time Mooresville champion Tim Byrd of Advance, NC in his ’78 Chevy Monza. Jeff Flood of Mocksville, NC drover his new Checvrlet Vega to a great semi-final finish at Door Car Jam-A-rama. Picking up the bonus Foot Brake Quick 8 win was Thomas Parson of Kannapolis, NC over Mike Hicks from Salisbury, NC. It was number eight qualifier Parson in his 1987 Ford Mustang scored the Door Car win over number one qualifier Hicks in his 1990 Ford Mustang.

 The newest hit at the track for the younger crowd is the new TEEN DAWG RACER class for 13 to 17 year kids. A parent or guardian of 21 and older must ride with me in a street legal car under 10 seconds. Take home the win was third generation drag racer Justin Edmonds of Statesville, NC with dad Jeff Edmonds in the passenger seat over the Mitchell/ Larry Harkey tag team combination. “ Lil E” Justin tighted it up at the stripe to .000, scoring the Door Car jam-a-rama  Teen Dawg racer win. Another Mooresville Junior dragster regular Marie Kay Bowie and brother Wendall was the TDR semi-finalist. Yadkin County's Andy Gryder TOOK Dawg at Satuday's BIG MO COOKOUT Contest

 

Hamptonville, NC's Andy Gryder Took home the TOP prize at the 2nd BIG MO Grill Out Contest. His Yadkin Pork with Mad Dawg Beans was a hit with all the judges this past Memorial Day Weekend! He took TOP Pork, Best Fixins' and BEST of SHOW for his cooking skills. Sorry Mike Hutchens you've lost your crewman...lol  taking the Best Chicken at the Door Car jam-a-rama cookoff was Kimberly Garrison of Rockwell, NC and her brother Steve Shaw also of Rockwell, NC scored the best amount the Fish with his grilled Salmon. Glenn Rollins of Statesville, NC whose been grilling for over 21 years took the Best Steak award.
